So after some months of mulling this idea over, I've decided to go ahead and see if I can't make it a reality...
"Time Trippers" is slated to be a spec children's TV series focused on inspiring younger audiences to develop an interest in learning history. Similar in structure to other fun educational shows such as "Wishbone" and "Where on Earth is Carmen San Deigo?", "Time Trippers" follows the adventures of museum curator Sarah Williams and her friends Sam the cat and Piper the parrot when they stumble upon a time machine buried in the museum's dusty basement. Together, the three friends travel through time meeting famous people and watching important events from world history.
The idea for this series came about while watching numerous children's television programs over the years with my niece, nephew, and goddaughters. I noticed there was a large variety of shows focused on science, math, language, even the arts, but very few on history. As a television and film professional who enjoys history and historical reenactments, I felt there was definitely a place for an educational but fun program focusing on history; and that (combined with a healthy enjoyment of and influence by the British TV show "Dr. Who") brought about the idea for "Time Trippers."
The show is already in the early stages of pre-production. The story treatment for the pilot script has been developed; the characters of Sam and Piper (who will be portrayed by puppets) have been designed, and the award-winning puppeteers of Grey Seal Puppets have been approached to perform them for the pilot; locations have been scouted; even the theme song has been written! The next step is to secure funding for production--building the puppets and set pieces--and from there the shooting and final editing. We already have a local television (cable access) station open to showing the finished product, and will be pitching it to larger networks once it's complete.
I've started a GoFundMe page to start raising funds for the project, and you can donate here. Any size donation is greatly appreciated, and every donor will have their name listed in the pilot's credits as a thank you for your support. I'm excited about the prospect of bringing this project to life!
